About UsGuatemalan Tomorrow Fund

The Guatemalan Tomorrow Fund, Inc. is a non-profit, non-denominational fundraising organization created to help the indigenous people of Guatemala become self sustaining through projects to improve health care, reduce illiteracy, promote sustainable agriculture, small business development, and to increase participation in the civic affairs. The Guatemalan Tomorrow Fund, Inc. is a nonprofit 501 C-3 corporation (U.S. Tax Number 65-0305897).

History and Structure

The Guatemala Tomorrow Fund (GTF) was created in 1992 by friends and family of Ak’ Tenamit founder Steve Dudenhoefer to facilitate raising funds for the project. During the first years, the GTF operated out of the homes of board members, but as Ak’ Tenamit grew and its needs became more complex, the organization moved into donated office space, hired an administrator and, eventually, a director. The GTF publishes a biannual newsletter and has coordinated the production of videos about Ak’ Tenamit, as well as organizing frequent presentations by Steve Dudenhoefer at churches, schools, Rotary Clubs and other organizations Steve now serves as Technical Advisor to Project Ak’ Tenamit.

The GTF benefits from the guidance of its non-compensated Board of Directors, some of who volunteer considerable time for administrative duties. The Fund consequently manages to keep its operating costs at less than 15% of donations, which means that most of the money people donate goes to the Q’eqchi Maya communities that Ak’ Tenamit serves.
